দগ্ধ শিশুরা হলো- সুমি (১৩), তার ছোট ভাই ফিরোজ (১১) ও সোহানা আক্তার (৮)।

দগ্ধ সুমির চাচা আ. রশিদ জানান, কেরানীগঞ্জের চুনকুটিয়া চৌরাস্তা এলাকার বাসিন্দা তিনি। সোমবার (৪ মার্চ) তাদের বাসায় বেড়াতে আসে তার ভাতিজি সুমি ও তার ছোট ভাই ফিরোজ। সকালে বাসার তিনতলার ছাদে কাপড় শুকাতে দিতে যায় সোহানা নামে এক শিশু। এ সময় তার সঙ্গে ছাদে উঠেন সুমি ও ফিরোজ। পরে ছাদের পাশে বিদ্যুতের তারে অসবাধানতাবশত ফিরোজ হাত দেওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বিদ্যুৎস্পৃষ্ট হয়। তাকে বাঁচাতে এগিয়ে গেলে বিদ্যুৎস্পৃষ্ট হয়ে দগ্ধ হয় সোহানা ও সুমিসহ তারা। পরে তাদের উদ্ধার করে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ (ঢামেক) হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়।

ঢামেক হাসপাতালের বার্ন ইউনিটের আবাসিক সার্জন ডা. পার্থ শংকর পাল বাংলানিউজকে জানান, ফিরোজের হাত-পা ও বুক এবং পেটসহ শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থান ঝলসে গেছে। বাকী দুই শিশুর হাত ও পাসহ শরীরের বেশকিছু স্থান ঝলসে গেছে। তারা সবাই হাসপাতালে বার্ন ইউনিটে চিকিৎসাধীন।
